Why Your Dog’s Behaviour Isn’t the Problem — It’s the Communication Behind It
Every dog communicates. Some whisper, some shout, and some struggle to express themselves in ways we humans understand. When behaviours become overwhelming — reactivity, anxiety, pulling, barking, guarding — it’s easy to feel like your dog is “being difficult”. But behaviour is never random. It’s information.
As a Certified Dog Psychologist working through a LIMA (Least Intrusive, Minimally Aversive) framework, my role is to decode that information, understand the emotional drivers behind it, and guide both you and your dog toward calmer, safer, more confident living.
Understanding the Root of Behaviour
Dogs don’t wake up one morning and decide to be reactive, anxious, or destructive. These behaviours are usually the result of:
- Emotional overwhelm
- Confusion or unmet needs
- Past experiences
- Lack of clear communication
- Environmental stress
- Developmental stages (especially in puppies)
When we address the why, the what becomes far easier to change.
Reactivity & Aggression: More Than Just “Bad Behaviour
Lead reactivity, dog‑to‑dog aggression, territorial behaviour, redirected aggression — these are some of the most common issues I’m called to help with.
Reactivity is often rooted in fear, frustration, or uncertainty. Aggression is usually the final expression of an emotion that has been building for a long time.
Through psychology‑led training, we work on:
- Emotional regulation
- Safe exposure
- Predictability and structure
- Handler confidence
- Clear communication
The goal isn’t to “correct” the dog — it’s to help them feel safe enough that the behaviour no longer needs to exist.

Puppy Development: Building the Foundation Early
Toilet training, crate training, bite inhibition, early socialisation, routine building — puppies absorb everything.
Early guidance prevents future behavioural issues and builds a dog who is:
- Emotionally stable
- Socially confident
- Comfortable being handled
- Able to settle
- Ready for the world
Puppyhood is where prevention is easier than correction.
A Psychology‑Led, LIMA‑Based Approach That Respects Your Dog
My training is built on:
- Understanding the dog’s emotional state
- Using the least intrusive, minimally aversive methods
- Prioritising welfare and communication
- Empowering owners with knowledge
- Creating long‑term behavioural change
This isn’t quick‑fix training. It’s relationship‑building.
Ready to Strengthen the Bond With Your Dog?
If your dog is struggling — or if you are — you’re not alone. Behavioural change is absolutely possible with the right guidance.

Meet Malakai: Life With an English Bulldog Who Breaks Every Stereotype
Some dogs enter your life quietly. Others arrive with presence, personality, and purpose. Malakai—the English Bulldog featured in your recent conversation—belongs firmly in the second category. His story reflects what it really means to live with a bully breed: loyalty, intelligence, balance, and a bond that goes far deeper than the label “pet.”
This post explores Malakai’s temperament, daily life, training, and future plans, while challenging the stereotypes that still surround bulldogs today.
A Bulldog With Balance
Strength With Sensitivity
One of the first things you learn about Malakai is that he’s a dog of duality. As you explain in the video, he can “sleep for days” or be “active for days,” depending on the energy around him . This adaptability is a hallmark of well‑bred English Bulldogs—far from the “lazy” label many people assume.
Key traits that stand out:
Energy mirrors the handler — He responds directly to the mood and pace of the home.
Quick learner — You describe him as obedient, attentive, and fast to pick up new behaviours.
Protective but not reactive — His bark is communication, not aggression; he alerts, he doesn’t escalate.
Emotionally intelligent — He checks on everyone in the household, ensuring harmony and fairness.
This is the side of bulldogs the public rarely sees: emotionally aware, deeply bonded, and eager to participate in family life.
Bulldogs were originally bred for bull‑baiting, a fact you highlight in the conversation . While that history shaped their physical strength, today’s bulldogs rely far more on mental guidance than brute instinct.
You emphasise the importance of:
A strong, consistent handler
Clear boundaries and follow‑through
Patience during early training
Confidence without harshness
These dogs thrive under leadership that is calm, structured, and emotionally stable. When they feel secure, they give that security back tenfold.
Living With Bullies: Changing the Narrative
One of the most powerful moments in the video is when you explain the purpose behind Living With Bullys: to show the world what life with bulldogs is truly like, beyond the stereotypes .
People often mistake barking for aggression, or strength for danger. But as you demonstrate:
Bulldogs are alert, not aggressive.
They are loyal, not dominant.
They are family‑driven, not unpredictable.
They are gentle, even when powerful.
our mission is clear: education through real‑life examples, transparency, and daily storytelling.

Feeding bulldogs takes more than good intentions. Some vegetables that are healthy for humans can cause bloating, digestive upset, or even toxicity in dogs. That’s why I created the Good Veggie Bad Veggie For Bulldog's guide through the Living With Bullys Outreach Project — to help owners make safer choices. Bulldogs have sensitive guts, so while veg like carrots and pumpkin are fine in moderation, onions, garlic, and corn on the cob can be dangerous. Awareness protects our dogs. Feed with care.

As we step into 2026, my heart is full. This past year has been a blessing — not because everything was easy, but because everything was purposeful. Every dog I trained, every puppy I guided, every family I supported, every message shared, every book purchased, every repost, every prayer… it all built something real.
Thank you to everyone who trusted me to train and care for your dogs. Thank you to those who bought my books, shared my content, and uplifted the bulldog community with love and intention. You didn’t just support a business — you supported a mission.
To my parents — your legacy funds this dream. Everything I build carries your fingerprints. To God — thank you for the grace. Love you, Jesus.
2026 is a year of expansion. More visuals. More podcasting. More collaborations. More soulful sponsorships. More education. More community. More bulldogs raised with clarity, courage, and heart.
Living With Bullys is growing — not louder for noise, but louder in purpose. Not bigger for ego, but deeper in love.
Thank you for walking this journey with me. Let’s build boldly, beautifully, and deeply rooted in love together.
Happy New Year. — Michael C. Pepple

The festive season is a time of joy, togetherness, and delicious indulgence. Yet amid the sparkle and celebration, it’s important to remember that some cherished holiday treats can be harmful to our canine companions.
This guide offers gentle reminders and practical tips to help you protect your dog’s health while still embracing the spirit of the season. Because when we celebrate with awareness, every member of the family—including the four-legged ones—can feel safe, seen, and loved.
Nuts — Many nuts, especially macadamia nuts, are toxic to dogs and can cause worrying symptoms such as weakness, vomiting, tremors, and a rise in body temperature. Even non‑toxic varieties like almonds and walnuts can be dangerous, posing choking hazards or causing digestive blockages. The safest approach is to keep all nuts well out of your dog’s reach throughout the festive season.
Fatty Foods — Rich, high‑fat dishes like turkey skin, gravies, and buttery sides may trigger pancreatitis in dogs. This painful condition involves inflammation of the pancreas and can lead to symptoms such as vomiting, tummy discomfort, and low energy. To keep your dog safe, stick to lean cuts of meat and avoid offering any fatty leftovers, no matter how tempting those puppy eyes may be.
Safe Alternatives - While many festive foods are unsuitable for canine consumption, there are several safe and nutritious alternatives available. Consider offering your dog plain, cooked turkey (free from skin and bones), steamed vegetables such as carrots and green beans, or a modest portion of plain, cooked sweet potato.
These simple swaps let your bulldog enjoy the festivities without risking their health. By staying mindful of what’s safe, you can keep the holidays happy and worry‑free for your four‑legged family member.
Wishing you a wonderful holiday season! 🎄🐾

At Living With Bullys, we believe training isn’t just about obedience—it’s about connection, confidence, and care. And nothing embodies that philosophy more than the art of puppy socialising.
What Is Puppy Socialising?
Puppy socialising is the gentle, intentional process of introducing your pup to the world—its people, places, sounds, smells, and surprises. It’s not about overwhelming them. It’s about helping them feel safe, curious, and capable in new environments.
Between 4 and 12 weeks of age, puppies go through a critical “socialisation window” where their brains are wired to absorb new experiences. What they learn during this time shapes how they respond to life—for better or worse
Why It Matters
Confidence for Life: Well-socialised puppies grow into dogs who are calm, friendly, and resilient. They’re less likely to develop fear-based behaviours like aggression or anxiety
Safer Interactions: Dogs who’ve met a variety of people, animals, and situations are better equipped to handle the unexpected—whether it’s a toddler’s hug or a noisy street.
Stronger Bonds: Socialising builds trust between you and your pup. It teaches them that you’re their safe place, even when the world feels big and new.
Better Health Outcomes: Dogs who are comfortable with vet visits, grooming, and handling are easier to care for—and less stressed in the process
How to Socialise with Soul
At Living With Bullys, we approach socialising as an art form. Here’s how to do it with tenderness and intention:
Start Slow, Stay Gentle: Introduce one new experience at a time. Let your pup observe before engaging.
Use Positive Reinforcement: Treats, praise, and play help your puppy associate new things with joy.
Read Their Signals: If your pup seems overwhelmed, pause. Socialising isn’t a race—it’s a relationship.
Mix It Up: Let them meet different people, dogs, textures, sounds, and settings. Think buses, babies, bicycles, and birds.
Celebrate First Sniffs: Every new scent is a story. Let your pup explore with curiosity and care.
Socialising isn’t just a checklist—it’s a mindset. It’s about seeing your puppy not as a blank slate to mould, but as a soul to nurture. It’s about creating a world where they feel safe enough to be brave.
At Living With Bullys, we call it “training with tenderness.” Because every confident dog starts with a compassionate beginning.

Final Thought
Bulldog Training Made Soulful isn’t just a book — it’s a movement. A call to raise dogs with intention, to train with emotional fluency, and to honour the bond that makes bulldogs more than pets — they’re family.

In the world of bulldogs—where every wrinkle tells a story and every snore is a lullaby—nutrition isn’t just science. It’s soul care. And pumpkin? It’s the unsung hero of the bulldog pantry.
Why Pumpkin Belongs in Your Bulldog’s Bowl
Pumpkin isn’t just a seasonal treat—it’s a year-round ally. Rich in fiber, vitamins A, C, and E, and low in calories, it supports:
Digestive harmony: Eases constipation and diarrhea with gentle fiber
Weight management: Adds bulk without excess calories
Skin and coat health: Boosts hydration and glow from the inside out
Immune support: Strengthens defenses with natural antioxidants
What to Watch For
Use plain, cooked pumpkin—avoid sugar, spices, or pie filling. Introduce it gradually and check with your vet for portion advice. Pumpkin seeds? Yes, but only roasted and ground—never raw.
From Ritual to Connection
Feeding pumpkin isn’t just about nutrients. It’s about slowing down. Noticing. Offering something warm and healing. It’s a way to say: I see you. I care for you. I honor your bulldog soul.

Fireworks: Not Universally Celebrated
What appears as a celebration to us may be perceived as chaos by them.
As firework season approaches, many of us brace ourselves—not for the noise, but for the trembling paws, wide eyes, and restless pacing of our bulldogs. These aren’t just reactions. They’re reminders that our companions feel the world deeply.
At Living with Bullys, we believe care is a ritual. So here are five soulful ways to turn firework fear into moments of trust and connection:
Create a Sanctuary
Set up a quiet, cozy space away from windows. Add familiar blankets, a worn shirt with your scent, and soft lighting. This isn’t just a hiding spot—it’s a refuge.
Sound as Shield
Play calming music or white noise to soften the sharpness of explosions. Our favorite? Gentle piano or ambient nature sounds. Let the rhythm remind them they’re safe.
Stay Close, Stay Calm
Your presence is the anchor. Sit beside them, speak softly, and breathe slowly. You don’t need to fix the fear—just witness it with love.
Treats as Trust
Use high-value treats to reward calm behavior. Not as bribery, but as reassurance: “You’re doing great. I see you.”
End with a Blessing
Before bed, offer a gentle touch and a whispered affirmation:
“You are safe. You are loved. We made it through together.”
Soulful Note:
Fear doesn’t make your bulldog weak. It makes them real. And your response—steady, kind, present—is the ritual that turns panic into peace.
We’re with you, every bang and bark of the way.

A Guide to Travel Insurance with Bulldogs
Travelling with your bulldog isn’t just about packing a lead and a favourite toy—it’s about carrying their comfort, safety, and dignity with you wherever you go. Whether you’re planning a road trip across the UK or a flight abroad, one thing is certain: our dogs deserve the same care and protection we’d give ourselves.
That’s where pet travel insurance comes in.

Why Pet Travel Insurance Matters
Accidents, illness, or unexpected delays can happen at any time. While your own travel insurance won’t cover your bulldog, pet travel insurance is designed to step in when things don’t go to plan. It can help with:
- Emergency vet fees abroad if your dog falls ill or gets injured
- Quarantine costs if your pet can’t return home with you straight away
- Replacement documents if passports or health certificates are lost or stolen
- Emergency transport to get your pet safely back home
- Holiday cancellation cover if your trip is cut short because your dog needs urgent treatment
For bulldog owners, this peace of mind is priceless. Our breed is soulful, stubborn, and sensitive—meaning we need to be extra prepared when taking them beyond familiar ground

Preparing Your Bulldog for Travel
Before you set off, there are rituals worth honouring:
- Vet check‑up & vaccinations: Make sure your bulldog is fit to travel and up to date with rabies and other required shots.
- Animal Health Certificate: Essential for EU travel, valid for one trip only.
- Comfort & safety: A well‑ventilated carrier, hydration, and calm reassurance go a long way.
Know the rules: Airlines, ferries, and trains all have different pet policies—bulldogs especially need careful handling due to their breathing needs.

The Pet Travel Scheme (PETS)
The UK’s Pet Travel Scheme makes it easier to move between participating countries without quarantine, provided your dog is: Microchipped, Vaccinated against rabies,Issued with an Animal Health Certificate, Treated for tapeworm and ticks.
For bulldog owners, this means less stress and more focus on the bond you share.
Bulldog‑Friendly Travel Tips
- Car journeys: Keep them cool, secure, and never left alone.
- Flights: Always check airline rules—many only allow bulldogs in the hold, and some won’t carry brachycephalic breeds at all.
- Ferries & Eurotunnel: Often the most comfortable way to travel, as you can stay with your dog in your own car.
A Trusted Resource :For a full breakdown of what pet travel insurance covers, how to prepare, and which carriers are pet‑friendly, I recommend reading Go Compare excellent guide: Travelling with pets – A guide to travel insurance.
Final Thought :Travelling with your bulldog isn’t just logistics—it’s a ritual of trust. With the right preparation and the right cover, you can turn journeys into soulful adventures, knowing your four‑legged friend is protected every step of the way

Healthy habits, happy paws.
Paws‑itive Crate Training Plan for Bully's
Crate Training Made Simple
Start by placing the crate in a common area with the door open, using treats and toys to encourage exploration—never force your bulldog inside. Build positive associations by feeding meals and offering chews in the crate, always pairing entry with praise. Once comfortable, begin closing the door for short periods, gradually increasing time and distance while keeping the experience positive. Establish a routine by scheduling crate time during meals, naps, or quiet moments, and praise voluntary use. At night, keep the crate nearby for security, and only release your pup when calm. Puppies should not stay crated longer than 2 hours, adults about 8hours (except overnight), always with potty breaks beforehand. If setbacks occur, return to shorter, easier steps until confidence is restored.

The Unseen Leash: Building a Deeper Bond With Your Dog
In the world of dog care and training, there’s something far more powerful than commands and routines — it’s the invisible thread that connects us to our canine companions. Not made of nylon or leather, this leash is woven from trust, love, and mutual understanding.
Whether it’s relaxing together at home, enjoying a quiet walk in the park, or simply capturing those joyful moments on camera, these peaceful slices of life are where the deepest bonds are formed.
Beyond Obedience: What True Bonding Looks Like
Creating a meaningful connection with your dog goes beyond basic obedience. It’s about building a relationship rooted in: Mutual trust,Respect for each other’s boundaries,Emotional understanding. This kind of bond transforms everyday interactions into moments of connection — and turns training into a shared language rather than a list of commands.
Understanding Your Dog’s Language
Dogs may not speak our words, but they communicate constantly through: Body language,Vocalisations,Behavioural cues Learning to interpret these signals helps you respond with empathy and clarity, deepening your dog’s trust in you. When your dog feels heard, they feel safe — and that’s where real bonding begins.
Consistency Builds Confidence
Dogs thrive on routine and predictability. By being consistent with your commands, responses, and expectations, you create a stable environment where your dog knows what to expect. This reliability helps them feel secure and understood — a key ingredient in any strong relationship.

Quality Time Matters
Bonding isn’t just built during training sessions. It’s formed in the quiet moments: A gentle walk in the park, A nap together on the sofa, A shared glance that says “I get you” These moments of calm togetherness are where trust deepens and companionship flourishes.
Positive Reinforcement
The Power of Encouragement
Rewarding good behaviour with treats, praise, or play isn’t just about training — it’s about building trust. Positive reinforcement teaches your dog that good things come from you, reinforcing their confidence and strengthening your emotional connection.
The Emotional Glue
Think about the joy of being greeted by a wagging tail after a long day, or the comfort of a furry head resting on your lap. These emotional exchanges are the glue that binds your partnership. They remind us that dogs aren’t just pets — they’re family.
Final Thoughts
The bond between a dog and their handler is a beautiful dance of give and take. It’s not about control — it’s about connection. Every interaction is a chance to build trust, deepen understanding, and celebrate one of the purest forms of friendship.
So next time you walk, train, or simply sit beside your dog, remember: you’re not just shaping behaviour — you’re shaping a lifelong bond.

Care & Grooming for Bulldogs: Keeping Your Bully Healthy, Happy, and Handsome

Bulldogs are more than their iconic wrinkles and soulful eyes — they’re loyal companions with unique needs. Caring for them goes beyond love and cuddles; it’s about understanding their breed‑specific quirks and creating a routine that keeps them comfortable, healthy, and looking their best.
Bathing & Coat Care
Bulldogs have short, smooth coats that are surprisingly low‑maintenance — but they do shed.
Brushing: A soft bristle or rubber grooming mitt 2–3 times a week removes loose hair, stimulates the skin, and gives you a chance to check for bumps or irritation.
Bathing: Every 2–3 months (or as needed) with a gentle, pH‑balanced dog shampoo. Always dry thoroughly, especially in skin folds, to prevent moisture‑related infections.
Between Baths: Use pet‑safe wipes to freshen up paws, under the tail, and facial wrinkles.
Dental Health
Bulldogs are prone to dental issues due to their jaw shape.
Brush teeth 2–3 times a week with dog‑safe toothpaste.
Offer dental chews or toys to help reduce plaque.
Schedule annual vet dental checks.
Wrinkle & Skin Fold Care
Those adorable folds can trap moisture, dirt, and bacteria.
Clean daily or every other day with a soft, damp cloth or vet‑approved wipe.
Dry completely — even a little dampness can cause irritation or infection.
Keep an eye out for redness, odor, or discharge, which may signal a vet visit.
Ear Care
Their folded ears can trap wax and debris.
Check weekly for redness, odor, or excess wax.
Clean gently with a vet‑approved ear cleaner — never insert cotton buds deep into the ear canal.
Nail & Paw Maintenance
Trim nails every 3–4 weeks to prevent discomfort and posture issues.
Inspect paw pads for cracks, cuts, or lodged debris.
Moisturise with a dog‑safe balm if pads are dry.

The Soul of Bulldog Care
Grooming isn’t just about hygiene — it’s a bonding ritual. These moments of touch and attention build trust, reduce stress, and let your bulldog know they’re cherished. By keeping up with regular care, you’re not only protecting their health but also deepening the connection that makes life with a bulldog so rewarding.
Final Tip: Keep grooming sessions calm, positive, and full of praise. Your bulldog will learn to love the routine — and you’ll love the results.

The Bulldog Palette: 16 Shades of Soul
A Tail-Wagging Guide
Coat Colors & Canine Charm
In the world of bulldogs, every wrinkle tells a story—and every coat carries its own kind of poetry. Whether you're a seasoned bulldog lover or just beginning your journey, understanding the rich tapestry of bulldog colors and patterns is more than aesthetics—it's about honoring their heritage, health, and individuality.
16 Shades of Soul
ulldogs come cloaked in a stunning array of colors and patterns, each with its own vibe and charm. Here's a soulful breakdown of some of the most iconic and beloved coat typesEach coat tells a story—not just of genetics, but of personality, lineage, and love. Some colors, like merle or lilac, may be rarer and come with specific health considerations. Others, like brindle or fawn, are deeply rooted in bulldog tradition.

At Living with Bullys, we believe in celebrating every bulldog—regardless of coat. But we also advocate for informed care, ethical breeding, and soulful connection.
Why Coat Color Matters (Beyond the Surface)
While color is never the measure of a bulldog’s worth, it can offer clues about.
Genetic health: Certain patterns (like merle) may require extra care and ethical breeding practices. Sun sensitivity: Lighter coats may be more prone to sunburn—especially on the nose and ears. Skin care needs: Some colors are linked to specific skin sensitivities or grooming routines.
Choosing Your Bulldog Soulmate
Whether you're drawn to the boldness of a red & white or the mystique of a chocolate tri, let your heart lead—but let knowledge guide. Ask questions. Meet the parents. Understand the lineage. And most importantly, choose a bulldog whose spirit speaks to yours.

The Stubborn Heart: Navigating Bulldog Independence
There’s a moment every bulldog owner knows: you call their name, offer a treat, maybe even do a little dance—and they blink at you like royalty, unmoved. It’s not defiance. It’s not disobedience. It’s the stubborn heart of a bulldog, beating to its own rhythm.
But beneath that slow blink and planted paw lies a soul rich with loyalty, sensitivity, and quiet wisdom. Navigating bulldog independence isn’t about control—it’s about connection.
The Myth of Stubbornness
Bulldogs are often labeled as “stubborn,” but what if we reframed that word?
• Intentional: They don’t rush. They assess.
• Sensitive: They feel deeply, even if they don’t always show it.
• Selective: They choose their moments—and their people—with care.
Their independence is a form of dignity. They’re not here to perform. They’re here to relate

Emotional Intelligence in Training
Training a bulldog requires more than commands—it demands emotional fluency.
• Tone over volume: A soft, confident voice earns more respect than shouting.
• Timing is everything: Bulldogs respond best when they feel safe and seen.
• Trust the pause: If they hesitate, it’s not resistance—it’s reflection.
Try this: next time your bully “refuses” a command, sit beside them. Breathe. Let them feel your presence. Then ask again, gently. You might be surprised.
Rituals of Respect
Build rituals that honor their independence while guiding their behavior:
• The Morning Invitation: Instead of dragging them out of bed, invite them into the day with a gentle touch and soft words.
• The Choice Walk: Let them choose the direction for part of your walk. It’s a small gesture with big emotional impact.
• The Listening Session: Spend five minutes just observing them—no commands, no agenda. Learn their language.
These rituals create a rhythm of mutual respect. You lead, but you also listen.
When Independence Meets Affection
Bulldogs may resist commands, but they rarely resist love. Their independence doesn’t mean they’re distant—it means they’re discerning.
• They’ll ignore a toy but melt for a belly rub.
• They’ll refuse a walk but follow you from room to room.
• They’ll plant their feet—but they’ll also plant their heart.
Final Thoughts: The Gift of the Stubborn Heart
Living with a bulldog means living with a creature who teaches you patience, presence, and poetic timing. Their independence isn’t a challenge—it’s a gift. It invites you to slow down, tune in, and lead with love.
So next time your bully sits and stares, unmoved by your plans, remember: you’re not losing control. You’re gaining connection.

Bulldog Heatwave Survival Guide: Keeping Your dog Cool When Temperatures Soar

British summer is finally here—but for bulldog owners, that means extra vigilance. Bulldogs are adorable snorters, but their short snouts and love of lounging make them especially vulnerable to heatstroke.
Why Heatwaves Are Risky for Bulldogs
Unlike humans, dogs don’t sweat. They pant to regulate body temperature, but for breeds like bulldogs, this isn’t always efficient. Overheating can happen fast—especially in London’s humid heat. Common signs include excessive panting, drooling, lethargy, and even vomiting. Prevention is key.
🐾 Top Tips to Keep Your Bulldog Cool
Let Them Paddle! A shallowie pool a shaded garden corner or a visit to a water park can bring instant joy to bulldogs

Ensure supervision at all times refill the water as needed to keep them safe and happy.
Sun Smart Use pet-safe sunscreen on exposed areas like noses and ear tips. And remember, bulldogs don’t need shaving—brushing out loose fur is more effective.

Did You Know ?
Dogs have an extraordinary sense of smell, with up to 300 million olfactory receptors in their noses. This incredible ability allows them to detect subtle changes in our scent, which can help them understand our emotions and even identify certain medical conditions. It's one of the many reasons why dogs are such amazing companions. 🐶

Christmas Food To Avoid
The holiday season is a time for joy, celebration, and delicious food. However, while we indulge in festive treats, it's important to remember that some of our favorite Christmas foods can be harmful to our furry friends. Here's a guide to help you keep your dog safe and healthy during the holidays.
Fatty Foods
Rich, fatty foods like turkey skin, gravy, and buttery dishes can cause pancreatitis in dogs. This condition is characterized by inflammation of the pancreas and can lead to symptoms such as vomiting, abdominal pain, and lethargy. Stick to lean meats and avoid giving your dog any fatty leftovers.
Nuts
Certain nuts, such as macadamia nuts, can be toxic to dogs. They can cause symptoms like weakness, vomiting, tremors, and hyperthermia. Other nuts, like almonds and walnuts, can pose a choking hazard or cause gastrointestinal blockages. It's best to keep all nuts away from your dog.
Safe Alternatives
While many holiday foods are off-limits for dogs, there are plenty of safe and healthy alternatives. Consider giving your dog plain, cooked turkey (without skin or bones), steamed vegetables like carrots and green beans, or a small amount of plain, cooked sweet potato. These treats will allow your dog to join in the holiday festivities without any risk to their health.
By being mindful of what foods are safe and unsafe for your dog, you can ensure that the holiday season is enjoyable for everyone, including your furry friend. Happy holidays! 🎄🐾
